There is no need to go on the beach. Make your own sand and play at home !

Kinetic sand is something that can entertain the whole family, especially the little ones.  It can be used as an excellent multimedia education tool in developing fine motor skills, creativity and imagination in children. There isn’t a child who doesn’t likes to play in the sand, and for this play it’s not necessary to be on a beach. This sand can be purchased ready-made or made at home. Playing with it, it’s possible in the living room, without a lot of dirt. All it takes is a substrate and higher surface molds, knives, cars, and remember only the imagination is the limit.

This sand is different from the ordinary because it has a structure that permits forming a lot of various forms. Also, the structure of the kinetic sand is not like the structure of the clay for example, but is loose and in the same time compact, which makes it especially interesting to play. Kinetic sand has its own specific humidity, and it does not stick to your fingers.

To make these kind of sand at home, you will need the following things

  • 1 cup fine, what finer sand (available in shops for pets, is used as a dry shake for cats)
  • 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon dish-washing detergent
  • a small amount of plain water (if necessary)
  • food coloring (optional, if you want to paint your kinetic sand)

It is very important that the sand is dried out, respectively, to extract maximum moisture out of it. Then stir it in starch to obtain an even mass. Finally add a teaspoon of dish-washing detergent and water so that it has its own consistency. Add the water gradually to avoid excessive levels. First, add small amount of water, so it is well interfering (best mash by hand), and then add some more water if it is too dry. Finally, if you want a kinetic send in different color separate it and add a variety of colors (preferably gel-colored cake), or you can paint the entire mass of the same color.

It is very convenient because guess what? It can be baked! If you make an interesting sculpture, you can bake it in the oven and keep it. Also, you can build a variety of two-dimensional images (using colored sand), or use molds for the beach, cakes, and make interesting sculptures.
